What's a nice amp to use with a jazzbox or 335 type archtop guitar, for
that nice round, warm jazzy tone?

There's a huge number of options in this category,
and ultimately it's going to be subjective to each
individual. Having said that:

Fender Super Reverb or for lower power a Deluxe Reverb.
(Having both is hard to beat!) I'd suggest a Twin Reverb,
but they're worse to haul around than a 4-10" Super.

If you want serious high volume clean tone... the
Peavey SS steel guitar amps are incredible. (Session,
Nashville, etc...)

In more compact size, the Polytone Mini is popular
(for good reason). And Roland has made several SS amps
that are well regarded by jazz players. I used to have
one of these that kicked ass for a tiny package:

The Roland JC-xxx series amps are good, but I'm personally
not that hyped on them:

The clean channel on the Peavey Delta Blues will get the
job done, but there are some known problems with the amp
that need help. (Chassis and tube rattle and protecting
the exposed tubes in the back.)

I've got a 1960's Ampeg Reverbojet that sounds killer
with any hollow / semi-hollow guitar with decent pickups.

Where, and how loud ya gonna play it?

Start there.

Does anyone use the Ampeg reissues? Mine sound nice for mellow types of
playing up to being somewhat brassy (not quite distorted).

I favor Fender Super Reverbs, Twin Reverbs and Deluxe Reverbs. I may end up
trying one of the newer versions one day. The Hot Rod series, I believe.

The re-issue Ampegs have circuit design flaws - I went to an amp repair shop
once and the guy had seven of them in there - I would avoid them like the
plague.

I own an SJ-12T and an R-12R. Both have been played steadily for nearly two
years without a hitch.

If one is trying to get high volume and screaming tone from these amps, it
is possible that they will fail. They were not intended for that type of
usage. Play it like someone with a brain and you won't have problems.

If one wants a screaming guitar amp, I would suggest buying something else.

I use a Hot Rod (a 2x12 Deville) for jazz (well, something like jazz,
anyway).
Replaced the preamp and PI tubes with JAN GE 5751s, which made a day
and night difference in the tone. Short-bottle TADS in the output
stage, biased a bit cold. I'm pretty happy with it right now.

I'd still rather have one of the old silverface bassman 50 heads
though, like I had when I still lived in the US. Volume, bass, treble,
and 2 6L6s. What more could you want? Weighs a lot less, too.

Weight is important to me too. Can't lift those heavy ones like I used to.

I have a 70's Silverface Bassman Ten that would probably suit your style
very well. I haven't tried it with guitar yet. I'll get around to it, I
suppose.

Nothing beats a Fender twin,,

but iv'e found a nice old amp that works great and
that has fantastic reverb..a 1972 Traynor guitar mate..

original speaker has been changed though...
