Hello,

I have an Alessandro working dog, 40 watt 4x10 that has new 'Jensen'
C10R's. I hate them.
They break up way too early for me, George at Alessandro say's that
going to the C or P 10Q will give me more headroom without getting away
from the overall design of the amp.

Emailing Ted Weber, he has this suggestion, "30 watt 10A125, lightly
doped, and the 25 watt 10F150, no dope". I was asking him about using
the mixed set up of C+P's.

Of course Weber is biased toward his speakers, can't blame him for
that, and I see Jensens everywhere.

I know I don't like the Jensen C10R's but I'm wondering if it's just
the fact that it's an inefficient speaker, or the combination of the
fact that it's a poor quality speaker and inefficient that makes me
hate it.

I'm going to upgrade, but what is your experience?

Go with Jensen C10Q's and P10Q's or the Webers at twice the price?

I play at LP 58 reissue straight in, I'm looking for a warm smooth
sound that won't fall apart when played very loud.

Thanks for your two cents!

I use Ted Webber's 10" Ceramic Blue pups withn a 50 watt class A and have no
problem with early breakup. I guess I'm a classic rock guy. Depending on
your style, I'm sure Ted has a solution for you. I prefer the ceramic
speakers for what I do. YMMV. I wush you were close to try my 4-10 Webber
cab.It's really the only way . . .

Speaker selection is very much a matter of personal taste. That said,
I've got a 4x10 I make that I use the Jensen C10Qs and P10Qs and am
really happy with it. The amp is a modified '59 Bassman/Plexi Marshall
design and the combination sounds very good. I've even used the C10Qs
with P10Rs to good effect as well.

If you can find them, a quartet of Celestion Vintage 10s would be worth
trying as would a quartet of Carvin vintage-style 10s (British model?).
I have a set of the Carvins in a re-done Super Reverb that I've very
happy with.

I'm sure Ted's recommendations would work out well too. Eminence is
making some really good sounding speaker in their Patriot and Red Coat
series that would work well too. It really goes back to what *you* like
best.

Unfortunately that can require some experimentation on your part, but
you usually can get most of what you spend on new speakers back (80% or
so if they are in "like-new" condition) on EBAY....

Hope that helps...
