My 14 yr old son is considering buying the subject bass amp used priced
at $299. Can anyone tell me whether this amp might be worth it or
whether there might be problems?

Thanks in advance,
David

I owned that amp for a few years, but I'm not really a bass player
(which is the only reason I sold it).

IMHO, the BXR 300C is an *excellent* bass amp in that price range.
However, it really needs an extension cabinet to reach its full
potential. With combo alone, it is very bottom heavy on tone, and only
puts out 200W.

Now, if you add a 210H (two tens with a horn on a crossover), it is a
KILLER amp. Plenty of lows and thump, AND plenty of presence.

The amp was sold to a buddy with a PA company and a son in a gigging
band. The amp is very gigworthy, at least with the added cab. It has
plenty of power.

If it is in REALLY nice shape, it's worth $300. If it is worn, it's
worth less.

Try to get the guy down to $250 (if really nice, or $200 if beat up),
and keep an eye out for a second cab (210H or 410H).

Your son will be very happy even with combo alone. He'll LOVE you when
you add the second cab.
